We know our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Unfortunately, many churches don’t know how to accomplish this incredibly important task.
Perhaps before we can transform the world, we must first transform our churches – from a collection of believers focused on the “country-club” mentality of membership to one that focuses on making new disciples of our risen Savior.
You are invited to join other churches from around the Great Plains Conference in learning how to transform your church into a disciple-making congregation during a workshop Nov. 3-4 presented by the Rev. Dr. Phil Maynard, a well-known author and ministry coaching.
Maynard will provide his workshop in person from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 3 and 8:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 4 at Christ United Methodist Church, 4530 A St., in Lincoln, Nebraska. We also have set up a free livestream broadcast for the duration of each of the two days of presentations and discussion on the Great Plains Conference website – www.greatplainsumc.org/livestream. (The church host sites are Hastings First, Grand Island First-Faith, Columbus, Shickley, and Red Cloud - for detailed registration see the sites at the www.greatplainsumc.org/livestream).
Because the sharing of ideas is important in this transformative effort, we have set up nine other viewing sites where you can gather with other churches to view the livestream in communities large and small spread across both Kansas and Nebraska.
Please register for this event – paid for through your generosity via mission shares – so each site will know how many people to expect. Even if you plan to watch from home, please register so we have an idea on numbers participating in this event.
This workshop is for churches of any size to begin thinking through and designing a discipleship system that fits the needs of your mission field and accounts for the gifts and graces of your congregation. Maynard is a United Methodist pastor, new-church planter and coach who will provide our leadership over these two days. His goal is for every church that participates to leave with a discipleship system idea and a timeline on which to launch that idea.
This event will allow you to be on retreat with your pastor and your team to worship and work together on ideas to help disciples others for Jesus Christ back home.
If you want to learn more, please watch a preview interview video with Rev. Dr. Maynard at https://vimeo.com/239123742.
God bless you as you and your church consider how best to make disciples of Jesus Christ in your mission field. We hope you will consider taking part in this workshop, which we believe will equip you to carry out our mission.
Grace and peace,
Rev. Nathan Stanton
